The Woman in Black (1989)

If you watch TV, then there is a good chance that you are aware that this movie is coming out in theaters soon. It will be a remake of course,not this movie made 12ish years ago, staring Harry Potter. Horror movies get remade. That's just how it works. Unfortunately they almost always are horrible. But you already knew that too.
I have seen a decent amount of horror movies in my day, but I've never really heard of this one, which probably isn't a good thing. The Woman in Black takes place sometime between the two world wars in England. This movie is really English, especially the names. Arnold Pepperell, Bessie, and Mr Toovey are all characters. The main character is named Arthur Kidd. He works at a law firm and is sent to the English country side to settle the estate of an old woman who has just died. Should be a quick get the papers signed and get back home except there's the woman in black!
Basically the next 30 minutes is Arthur randomly seeing the woman in black just standing around and the rest of the town saying things like “oh I don't go around that haunted house” and “ghosts are real”, stuff like that. Really cliché. Finally it gets to the part of the movie where Arthur actually stays in the house. While nothing really intense takes place, I will say that the fact that he is completely alone and isolated from any possible help does increase the suspense.
SPOILER SECTION
It looks like the remake will have more actual “scares” than this one. There is the repetitive woman scream along with the little girls voice, but they do get old after a while. The little girl ghost playing with the ball was cool, along with her room getting trashed, but there wasn't anything scary about it. And then came what my brother and I professionally call “the fake ending”. When done correctly, it can be very effective. The fake ending is exactly what it sounds like. Arthur comes home and you think that everything is ok. The movie has ended and you can finally let down your scare guard and be at ease. And then came the dream scare, which was legit creepy. Finally if you did watch this movie then you know what is coming. The last scene of course. Pulled a total friday the 13th. Oh look they are on a boat. What a lovely day, maybe a little cold though. Whole family just having a splendid time. Woman in black is standing on the water. Wait what? ArggahjCrashDeathyBloodScreamyMess. Fake endings.

Favorite Scene : Clearly the final scene. Total whammy.
Favorite Quotes : I really don't remember any. Someone probably said “'Ello Govanah and tea wit ta queen.” though. Stuff like that.
Rating : For a horror movie, this was kind boring. There was a dog named spider. 5 corns
What to take away from the Woman In Black : If you happen to be in England and stumble upon a deep marsh, something terrible to a horse probably happened there.
